Having received its first play from Zane Lowe today, ‘BREATHE’ is the follow up to recent single ‘kill me’ and packs together all the core elements of their raw sound into 3’25 of guttural stimulation. Rousing and vital, it’s a guitar laden hit that curses through your veins on every listen. A perfect depiction of a panic attack (we’ve all been there), its message is clear: just breathe. Benjy explains: “Breathe is about a panic attack. The worst feeling for about 3 minutes and then nothing at all. Like a full body ejector seat. And so the song is like talking to yourself or talking to a friend. It’s the most pumpingly present feeling that you can’t escape but at the same time the only thing you can do is breathe. Again and again. As slow as you can. The rest of the band are like swallowing me in sound, but like still this voice is like fighting for air and to be heard. Anyway I hope ya never have one but also all you need to do is breathe and be more present than like the most present feelinggg. Pinch your hands, count to 1000, read out words in your head but breathe keeep breathinggg.” The high energy, prolific five piece band from East London have been showering us with their off-kilter killer music since their debut ‘hotline’. ‘money body’, ‘gold teeth & fenty’, ‘u come near’ and ‘kill me’ followed. ’BREATHE’ is the new kid on the block and bby are not messing with this one. The video is again centered around their East London HQ where they host hangs for fans as regularly as they can. DIY parties soundtracked by good music for good times. This latest video splices together footage of fans arriving at one recent party as captured on the studio door Ring cam. Recently they shared footage of a disgruntled neighbour complaining about the noise the hang was generating- see here. This incredible run of singles has taken the DIY upstarts to new heights, including breaking the USA Alt Top 20 with their debut single ‘hotline', and winning a big fan in Zane Lowe who included bby in his 24 artists for 2024 list in addition to track by track support. On this side of the pond, the band have had great looks from BBC Radio with a huge BBC Maida Vale session, and have been featured in the likes of NME, Rolling Stone UK and Pigeons + Planes. Benjy (vocals), Jessy (guitar), Tommy (guitar), Deon (bass), Tom (drums) all met on the internet and it clicked. Fom hip hop to RnB to alt and an array of alternative sounds therein - bby pull their influences together with confidence to make music that sounds like the moment; a union of mixed musical tastes from which bby was born. The HQ is the nucleus of bby (see further footage from the space in their DIY videos HERE). Writing, developing and producing their own music, alongside abundant good times, has become their focus for the future. They continue to host regular hangs at their collaborative space, which fans are now flocking to. The chaos they create at these shows is tangible which informs their sound and the music they make. The fans, the space, the sweat, the vibe - it all comes together as one. Coming up, they are already slated to play summer festivals including TRNSMT, Kendal Calling, Boardmasters, Y Not and All Points East. 2024 is proving to be a busy one for bby.
